CoronaVirus (COVID-19)! What should we do?

As Christians, most of us are not surprised at the current pandemic that is affecting the world, as the Bible tells us to expect such calamities as we near the end of time. This current worldwide pandemic has many people in panic mode; but is it necessary? Of course not! First, we need to place our trust in God, and if we feel ourself becoming fearful, stop, and ask him for his comfort and peace. Next, like anything, you must look at the facts. Yes, this virus is transmitting rapidly, and yes, many people have died. However, there are many other sources and reasons that people die every day, often times because they do not take “prudent” precautions. Just like people who die in car crashes because they were not wearing a seat belt; yet some die even with wearing their seatbelt. The point is, you are more likely to survive a crash by taking the “prudent (and lawful)” precaution of wearing your seatbelt. Not unlike the current virus, you “could” die in a car crash, even with taking all necessary precautions, but I still see plenty of cars on the road today. So, as with any potential peril in life, we should all heed the professional advice, and take prudent precautions, such as hand washing, and appropriate social distancing. And, for those who are older, and may have underlying medical conditions or compromised immune system, you should be especially cautious. So, for the time being, when I see your in church (or elsewhere), you will likely get an elbow bump instead of a hug or handshake from me. No, I am not “concerned (nor have I knowingly been in contact with infected individuals),” but I feel that I am relatively healthy and if I did contract the virus I could carry and not even know it, therefore, it is a “prudent” precaution to help keep others safe as well.

Remember John 14:27

Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
